Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Chief Bryan Warner are proposing new legislation that would commit over $100 million for addiction treatment facilities, new treatment programs, a scholarship endowment, and other initiatives using settlement funds from the tribe’s opioid and e-cigarette settlements. An anti-smoking body is calling on the government to double tobacco tax in a bid to reduce the overall smoking rate in Hong Kong. The current tax rate on a pack of cigarettes is about 63 percent.
